= Helper Verb, used to express desires of other people, translating as “to show signs of”
Forming
Replace -i with がる (and adjust the subject/object accordingly since it’s a transitive verb)
Example
- 私はケーキが食べたい。
- ”= I want to eat cake”
- ” When it comes to me, cake is desired to be eaten”
- → トムさんはケーキが食べたがる。
- ”= he want’s to eat cake”
- ” When it comes to Tom, cake shows signs of being desired to be eaten”
