Open classes §

= POS, which don’t readily accept new members

• NOUN: a person/place/thing/idea → “dog”
• ADVERB: description of (AD)VERB/ADJECTIVE → “quickly”
• ADJECTIVE: description of (PRO)NOUN → “quick”
• INTERJECTION: expression of emotion → “wow”
• MAIN VERB: action → “run”

Closed §

• AUXILIARY VERB: being → “can”
• PRONOUN: used in place of a NOUN → “he”
• PREPOSITION: description of a relation between a (PRO)NOUN to another word → “after”
• CONJUNCTION: connection of words/phrases/ → “and”
