Yes-No Question §

A question, which can be answered with yes/no.

How? §

Basic question sentence.

Answer §

Without predicate noun §

Yes/No answers keep the sentence structure, but:

• remove “か”
• place “はい、” (yes) or “いいえ、” (no) in front of it
• (use correct predicate noun)

With predicate noun §

Simply answer:

• はい、そうです。= Ja, (so ist es)
• いええ、ちがいます。= Nein, (ist es nicht / “es ist anders”)

📖 Example: §

No Predicate Noun §

わたしは　せんせいですか。 = Bin ich Lehrer? (“Ich bin Lehrer?“)

-> はい、わたしは　せんせいです。 = Ja, ich bin Lehrer. -> いいえ、わたしは　せんせいじや　ありません。 = Nein, ich bin kein Lehrer.

With Predicate Noun §

それは　じしよですか。

= Ist das (bei Ihnen) ein Wörterbuch?

-> はい、そうです。 = Ja, (so ist es) -> いいえ、ちがいます。 = Nein, (ist es nicht / “es ist anders”)
