Order and Chaos Story — Bottom-Up from Axioms (2026-05-17, 13:31)
Creative descendant of the morning’s pendulum note. Proposal: a story built bottom-up from order/chaos axioms (the way Attack on Titan sits on axioms like brutality of existence, passage of time, life’s drive to continue). Sketches a theory of story: function is to make abstract truths concrete and livable; good stories have load-bearing axioms even if writers usually work top-down. Bottom-up is experimental; this note opens it. Refined ~5 minutes later in Order and Chaos Story - Axioms and Moral Dilemmas.
Well, this is also pretty abstract, but I’m thinking of, uh, it may be a nice or good idea to have a movie or well, story. Let’s just call it story, maybe like a universe in itself, but a story that is based on this whole order and chaos concept that I’ve been discussing today. Like, you know that good stories always have like this ground axiom of things that they are based on, right? So for example, in Attack on Titan, it’s mul- it’s a multitude of things, but there are axioms so deep that based on those, the whole story lives. So for example, in Attack on Titan, it, one of those things is that this is just the brutality of existence. Feel like that’s one really major part of it. Then there’s also this pa— there’s a passing of time element related to it on multiple ways. For example, the story spans multiple decades, right? But then also the background lore spans, spans multiple centuries, right? Because the Titans are centuries old, and it’s also like kind of like a pendulum where this law of the universe or, well, this law of the Earth there with this celestial kind of being that the Titans are, awakes every few hundred years or, well, gets rediscovered every few hundred years. And another very important gr- thing, axiom you could call it, is just life wanting to continue, like this drive inside of it, like the, the Titan gene that just wants to continue living, like on a very profound level. Like, that’s also something that makes up the story. So there’s these things that are… Well, maybe if you’re just watching the story or the movie, you wouldn’t necessarily… If you’re not thinking about it, you wouldn’t notice these things, I think. But they are necessary to create a good story, because after all, a story that has, uh, uh, I… In my opinion, stories are written or made, or the function of a story is essentially to convey truths about the universe or, well, truths about human beings, truths about how to live. And well, uh, these, this knowledge in and of itself c- is very dry if you think about it like that, and very abstract. It’s way too abstract to be useful. Like for example, the fact that life always tries to continue on living, like what are you gonna do with that? Like, there’s not much you can pull out for your own life. So you, there’s stories that embed them on, and build on top of these axioms. And as a normal viewer, you’re not gonna think about these things, these ground axioms. You just enjoy the story that is built on top of them, and there may be many more levels of abstractions built on top of them. And at the highest level, there’s this story that you’re watching about Titans fighting wars and stuff that you find interesting. Essentially, you have a good story, builds up multiple layers until the abstract gets concrete. But well, the concrete is still based in the abstract, right? Because otherwise it would be a boring story. Like, if it, if the concrete is based in just bullshit and, and it is based in, in nothing, then the story would just be boring, right? But if it’s just too abstract, then it’s also boring because it’s, you, you don’t understand the story. But, and so I don’t know, most people… I don’t know how most stories are written really, but I feel like they are written from the top down. So the writer has some good idea about it, about some storyline, and he then writes a story about warriors and stuff. But he, he doesn’t necessarily know why it’s a good story. It’s just intuitively it feels like a good story. And then, well, may, they may connect it with some ground truths, but it’s coming from the concrete to the abstract, I think. I’m not even sure if they think about the abstract, honestly. But then there’s other works, like for example, the Bible, and these kinds of works, they also have some abstract… I, uh, they are, they fit together too well in order to be just concrete stories that by chance form this abstractThis abstract building. So I think there have been people contributing to those works who were aware of the abstract, right, of that other le- layer. Well, I’m rambling aro- around way too much, but the point I’m coming to is that I would like to make this exploration of order and chaos and entropy and, well, these laws of physics that are interesting in themselves, but could be also, well, translated in various ways into more concrete things like your everyday life. But, well, base a story on those abstract principles. Not sure what the theme should be, but, well, maybe something in the sense of Attack on Titan. I’m not sure that kind of genre may fit well, but I’m really not sure about the genre. But it should grapple with the things that I was thinking about today, about, well, intelligence being… intelligence being defined as that what can take advantage of points in space and time where entropy increases, like on that, that abstract level. Or the relationship between order and chaos. Or, [sighs] uh, what the worth of order is compared to chaos. Like, what, is there potential in order or is there potential in chaos? Like, I’m still not sure what that is, but there seems to be a special state and space of time for order essentially, like a clump of atoms that form together. Like, has to be special in a sense, but then I’m also unsure why it even happens to be the case that clumps or, well, order forms from chaos. Like, what is the ground principle or what is the ground truth or the universal truth that makes it all? Well, what are the mechanisms in the universe that make it so that order can form from chaos? But maybe these things are just so abstract that they essentially need to exist. As such, like, if something exists, it also has a, an opposite. And with that, if chaos exists, there also has to exist order. There is no reason why it exists, but simply for the reason that if something exists, an opposite has to exist. If something can be defined, an opposite has to be definable as well. Otherwise, it may not e- exist at all. And, well, these explorations on order and chaos are still very young, but they have been, not saying bothering me, but they have been interesting to me in a profound way, but I can’t even say why. But I think there is more to them, and I think they m- they may, they may be suitable to… They may be suitable as axioms for a story and can teach some fundamental truths about the universe and be helpful for your life. But, well, I’m coming from the bottom-up approach, where I collect these axioms and then try to build a story on top of it, which I’m not sure is a good way of doing things, but it may be an interesting exploration.
